2023 AHR Expo, Atlanta, February 6, 2023 – Wavin PP-RCT with a Basalt Fiber layer is a new generation of polypropylene pipe launching in North America this week that is redefining hot and cold-water pressure piping distribution systems.
Wavin PP-RCT with Basalt Fiber has superior properties for residential and commercial HVAC applications. The unique 3 - layer pipe has a middle layer containing basalt fibers, derived from a volcanic material that limits linear thermal expansion changes due to varying temperatures. It weighs less than metal pipes and is much more environmentally friendly than the more commonly used man-made glass fiber layer in PP - RCT offerings.
This design enables Wavin PP - RCT to deliver advantages over other piping systems, including:
“Wavin PP - RCT with Basalt Fiber is an example of Wavin innovation substantially improving the quality of water distribution systems for HVAC applications and beyond,” said Courtney Fretz Obregon, Wavin North America General Manager, noting that Wavin PP - RCT with Basalt Fiber is also ideal for hot and cold potable water distribution, industrial piping, and radiant heating and cooling.
Wavin pipe fitting systems include transition fittings with the highest specification quality of C69300 brass with the lowest lead content available, far exceeding current US lead-free requirements. “What that means is that Wavin PP - RCT with Basalt Fibers delivers the best hygiene performance in terms of drinking water quality and future-fit installation,” Obregon said.
The Wavin PP - RCT portfolio comes in metric sizes, with various standard dimension ratios (SDRs) for wall thickness; and nominal sizes ranging from ½” to 10” in diameter. It meets the requirements of national plumbing and mechanical codes and is also certified for drinkable potable water service.
