Most cities were not designed to handle the current climate and environmental challenges. So how can we help our cities become more climate resilient while better securing water resources?

Introducing The Stackable Wavin Stormwater Management System: A Better Solution for Urban Climate Resilience

Waltham MA - Engineered to address the urban challenge of stormwater management, the Wavin Stormwater Management System offers a reliable and efficient solution to close the water loop by capturing rainwater for reuse and controlled release to mitigate flooding.

The Wavin Stormwater Management System can also be used for infiltration to recharge groundwater and improve water run-off quality.

With roots in the UK, where it has been a go-to solution for more than 30 years, the system of interlocking crates from Orbia's Building and Infrastructure business Wavin, a global water technology leader, is now available to the North American market.

Efficiency by Design: Each Wavin crate holds 76 gallons at 48 inches x 24 inches x 16 inches. Interlocking and stackable design facilitates temporary and permanent underground installations, accommodating various site conditions. While similar systems often require depths of more than four feet for installation, Wavin Stormwater crates are adaptable for shallower installations, reducing grade change complications.

Superior Performance: Wavin crates are manufactured to easily bear heavy traffic loading conditions with proper installation depth and backfill. For landscaped non-traffic systems, Wavin crates can be installed at a minimum depth of 2.5 feet, while systems for heavy traffic can be installed as deep as 13 feet, catering to light and heavy water load requirements. Furthermore, its open structure significantly reduces clogging risks, allowing water to flow freely and minimizing debris accumulation.

Sustainability Advantages: The Wavin Stormwater Management System is manufactured from 100% recycled polypropylene. Its stackable design optimizes shipping, inventory, and job site storage. Four times more Wavin crates fit into one truck compared to similar systems, and fewer deliveries mean reduced CO2 emissions. The Wavin Stormwater Management System helps projects satisfy LEED credits for Water Efficiency (WE): Outdoor Water Use Reduction, Indoor Water Use Reduction and Sustainable Sites (SS): Rainwater Management.

Fast, Easy Installation: Push-fit functionality with ergonomic hand grips effortlessly click into place without any tools. The integrated pipe stopper and click-and-go bayonet mount spigot on the Wavin Stormwater Management System facilitate easy pipe connections, streamlining the installation process.

Simplified Maintenance: Open interior channels on the Wavin crates facilitate post-construction inspection and cleaning. This feature ensures that the Wavin Stormwater Management System doesn't just offer easy upfront installation but also eases long-term maintenance.

A Piece of the Circular Water Puzzle

The Wavin Stormwater Management System can be connected to other solutions such as the Wavin PolderRoof to enhance water reuse potential while increasing options for infiltration, retention, and detention. Wavin’s Water Tech Stack allows designers to close the water loop with custom features.

"The Wavin Stormwater Management System is a robust and reliable solution for managing excessive rainfall and mitigating urban flooding, making it a valuable asset to close the water loop and make our cities more livable and loveable," said Kraig Smith, Wavin North America Urban Climate Resilience Product Manager.

By combining space-saving designs, ease of installation, and a focus on environmental responsibility, Wavin sets new standards in stormwater management with its Stormwater Management System.
